Mines Game Probability: Safe Picks and Multipliers

Separate the chance of surviving a whole sequence from the chance of finding one more safe tile.

The 25-tile board

FlurryBet Originals Mines uses a 5×5 board with 25 tiles. You choose between 1 and 24 mines before the round starts. The server selects the hidden mine positions before your first reveal. A safe tile adds a crystal and increases the available return; a mine ends that round. After a safe reveal, the Cashout control lets you finish at the current multiplier.

The calculations below apply to this 25-tile Original, not automatically to every Mines game elsewhere. Use Fun Mode to explore them with practice credits, which have no cash value. Real-money casino play, deposits and withdrawals are currently unavailable. FlurryBet is for adults aged 18 or older, subject to higher local requirements.

Calculate the next safe pick

Let m be the chosen mine count and k the number of safe tiles already revealed. There are 25 − k hidden tiles left, including 25 − m − k safe ones. The conditional probability that the next previously hidden tile is safe is (25 − m − k) ÷ (25 − k). This counts tiles; it does not predict any particular square.

For three mines at the start, 22 of 25 tiles are safe: 88%. After two safe reveals, the board has 23 hidden tiles with 20 safe ones. The next safe-pick probability is therefore 20 ÷ 23, about 86.96%. It is slightly lower because safe tiles have been removed while all three mines remain hidden.

Surviving several picks is a different calculation

To calculate the probability of reaching k safe reveals from the start, multiply the safe-pick probabilities in sequence. With three mines, surviving two picks is (22 ÷ 25) × (21 ÷ 24) = 77%. Surviving three is that result × (20 ÷ 23), about 66.96%. Those are whole-sequence probabilities, not the chance of only the next tile after an existing success.

How the practice multiplier is calculated

For a nonzero number of safe picks, this Original uses 0.99 divided by the probability of surviving that sequence. The two-safe-pick example gives 0.99 ÷ 0.77 = 1.285714…×. The game can display a rounded multiplier, and settled practice amounts also respect currency precision. A multiplier describes total return, including the original practice amount, rather than profit alone.

As an illustration before rounding, a 10-credit practice amount cashed after two safe reveals with three mines returns about 12.8571 credits. The net gain is about 2.8571 credits. A mine instead produces zero return for that round. Multiplying the 77% survival chance by the unrounded 1.285714… total-return multiplier gives the 99% theoretical return for that fixed stopping point.

Use the formula without inventing a pattern

Rows, corners and diagonals do not have special survival probabilities when mine positions are selected uniformly. A remembered pattern from another round does not reveal this board. The probability calculation describes uncertainty over hidden positions; it cannot identify a safe tile. Choosing fewer or more reveals changes the chance and size of a successful return, without removing the game’s theoretical edge.

  1. Check the selected mine count before starting a practice round.
  2. Distinguish safe reveals already completed from additional reveals you are considering.
  3. Read Current return and the next-tile readout, then compare them with the conditional probability above.
  4. Use Cashout after a safe reveal to end the round, or inspect the recorded result after a mine.
